Easy is one of my favorite words! That’s what Thanksgiving should be, for the most part, right? Hopefully you had a chance to read up on our Trader Joe’s Haul and how we transformed those veggies into really delicious side dishes. Today we will show you how we make a super simple appetizer, pies, cornbread & kid’s table. Each one of these things truly take very little effort and will be easy additions to your Thanksgiving meal.
Let’s start off with this 3 ingredient appetizer. This was so good and literally took 2 minutes to put together. All you need is a block of cream cheese, Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce (we found this baby at Costco!) and flat pretzels or crackers for dipping.
It’s pretty self-explanatory but just pour that lovely sauce over the cream cheese, get your cracker and DIP! Boom! Done.
Cornbread mix from Trader Joe’s. Gather all the ingredients according to package (egg, water and oil).
Throw everything into a mixing bowl and stir just until combined. Pour into a greased baking dish and bake according to package directions.
This cornbread had a really nice flavor! Soft and warm is the best way to eat this! This did have kernels of corn in the batter, which may or may not be up your alley. But it was tasty!
Moving onto Banana Cream Pie. You’ll need 3 bananas, a pie tin, pie crust (we got ours frozen from Trader Joe’s), large vanilla pudding, milk and whipping cream or whipped cream.
We’ll have to bake the pie crust first, so once thawed out make sure to smooth out any cracks so that its all one nice piece. Peel off one side of the protective plastic and place it in your pie tin. Press down on all the edges to make sure it fits nice and snug inside the tin.
Peel off the top of the protective plastic layer.
Use a sharp knife to carefully trim off the excess dough along the edge of your tin.
Take a fork and poke holes all over the bottom and sides of the dough. This will prevent the crust from forming bubbles when baking.
Take your fork and press along the top edge of the tin/dough to create a pretty little design!
Bake according to directions and voila! You have a really yummy tastes-like-homemade-pie-crust. Wear your “Ove’ Glove” to be extra fancy when taking the crust out of the oven : )
Slice up 3 bananas and arrange evenly inside the cooked pie crust once it’s cooled off.
Prepare the vanilla pudding according to package directions. We just mixed the contents of the box with 3 cups of milk and whisked until thickened. Pour over the sliced bananas into the pie crust.
Smooth out and make sure pudding is sitting evenly. Keep refrigerated.
Now for the whipped cream. You can buy some already made or make it yourself. Either way is super easy!
Add about a teaspoon of vanilla extract to your heavy whipping cream.
Mix in powdered sugar to desired sweetness. Continue to mix with a stand mixer or hand mixer until fluffy.
Spread the whipped cream evenly over the top of your pie. You can also garnish with chocolate shavings, almond slivers or other chopped nuts, sliced bananas, toasted coconut…there are lots of options! (We devoured our pie too quickly and didn’t get a chance to take a picture! But this is essentially what it looked like).
Next up is this super easy Pecan Pie. We got the filling from Trader Joe’s and heard that it was flying off the shelves, so we had to try it ourselves! We also used the 2nd frozen pie crust (2 came in one package) that we bought. However because we were baking the filling as well, we left the pie crust RAW. We baked everything together.
Follow the directions for the filling, which was adding eggs and melted butter and mixing well. We poured it into our prepared (but not baked) pie crust.
Bake according to the filling directions. We ended up with a really tasty treat!
Top with a dollop of whipped cream or chocolate shavings! (Apparently we have a problem with waiting because again, this was eaten before we could snap a pic but this is what it looked like!)
It’s easy to get caught up in the beautiful tablescapes that we plan for the special guests in our home – which usually end up being the “adults table.” What about the kids? We decided to stick to our theme of simplicity and do something cute for them.
Just a nice long piece of craft paper, a permanent marker, some foam leaves and our gingerbread turkey kit from Trader Joe’s. Be as creative as you wish!
The kids were so excited to dive in and get that turkey decorated. They didn’t waste any time!
The finished product and lots of smiles!
We hope you can take some of these simple recipes and help keep your Thanksgiving day a little more stress free. We are so grateful for you and the support you’ve shown us!
